Collecting doors seems to be a universal thing… So many people are doing it! I have been collecting doors since forever, not really knowing why actually but there is just something bout it, and the fact that I am not alone in this says it all…
There are many kinds of doors. The old and ragged. The large and majestic. Colorful, playful, fancy are stately… I am not even mentioning the one decorated with caryatids or other lush decorations.
On a trip to Riga in Latvia I walked in a not very interesting, kind of neglected street when suddenly my breath was taken away by the door of a house I stumbled upon… It was a big, old and stately house, 1900’s, Jugendstil, abandoned and actually ready to be taken down. A fire had raged inside it, I suppose some people objected to it being taken down for it looked as if it stood abandoned for many years..
The entrance was breathtakingly beautiful. I did not have a very good camera at that time, so my photo (above) is of bad quality. I don’t believe it is now in the same state as it was then. The house is restored and renovated, and some how it lost the magic I felt then. At least I saw newer photos of it online and it has been newly painted. I am happy this house was saved nonetheless.

Quote from the lovely Weepies song ‘Little Bird’:
Sometimes it hard to tell the truth from the lies
Nobody knows what’s in the hold of your minds
We are all buildings and people inside
never know who’ll walk through the door
Is it someone that you’ve met before?
