A new blog and gallery are long overdue! I haven’t been doing much with my photos lately, feeling a bit overwhelmed and stressed with current affairs and work… But this week I have returned to my photos and slowly tried again on an old love of mine: creating a vintage look in contemporary photographs, using layers and gradients in Photoshop.
Too much to be stressed about
In the ’30s and ’40s, when the world was faced with a world war and tremendous grieve, people turned to happy music and feelgood movies to forget their worries and feel a little happy for a while. I can relate so much more now that we too are faced with this huge crisis, while the world grows more dark and grim by the day. Governments are overreaching their powers, people are being oppressed and excluded, and well… Just don’t get me started.
So while in this state and mood, I am trying to achieve a sentiment that makes me more happy, something that reminds me of a quieter, more peaceful period in the world…
These photos were taken during our holidays this summer. We could not go abroad, for obvious reasons, and so we visited cities in the Netherlands that we had not yet seen. It was truly a wonderful holiday, I realized once again how beautiful my country is and how much we should treasure it. The text overlays are created with a marvelous vintage font, ‘Sacred Letter‘.
